I haven't had too many products to review lately, so I've been pretty absent around here. I have been working on quite a few projects lately, and am considering opening an Etsy shop to sell things. Let me know what you think! :)

The Aveeno Sheer Hydration lotion rubs in evenly, and leaves my skin feeling instantly smooth. It does not leave a greasy or sticky feel like a lot of lotions do. It doesn't really have a scent, which is nice if you aren't a fan of scented products.

I’m a member of the Crowdtap Aveeno® rewards program, and Aveeno® sent me a sample of its SHEER HYDRATION DAILY MOISTURIZING LOTION to review.

Jadore Dessange!

For about a month I've been using Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Collection (shampoo, conditioner, and a replenishing oil) on my hair. I have really loved it! All of the products have a pleasant kind of citrusy smell to them.

The shampoo lathers in and rinses out nicely. The conditioner is thick and creamy and leaves my hair tangle free. The pair leave my hair smelling great!

At first I wasn't sure if the replenishing oil was to be used in the shower and rinsed out, but I quickly realized the bottle does say it is a leave in product. The directions are vague, and I have never used this type of product so I also guessed that it was to be used on damp hair. I think with the consistency of the oil it would make your hair look really greasy if it were used on dry hair.

After only the first use I noticed a huge difference in the softness of my hair. I thought maybe I was imagining it, but even my husband agrees that my hair is much softer after using this collection!

My only issue with the Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle collection is the price. The shampoo & conditioner retail at $9.99 for a tiny 8.5 OZ bottle. The replenishing oil retails at $11.99 for 3.4 FL OZ , but I find this price much more reasonable than the shampoo and conditioner because you only need a tiny amount of the oil, and the bottle will last much longer.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. However I am committed to providing honest feedback based on my experience with the products.

Brian Klawiter- You sir are a dumbass!

A local "Christian" Diesel mechanic, Brian Klawiter,  has taken to Facebook to share with the world that he will openly refuse service to gay people. He has obviously received a lot of comments on his post, most of which are along the lines that Christians don't get to judge others, that's God's job. Surprisingly he does have some support. Brian claims that he is receiving threats and has called upon his supporters to gather at his home and business to offer protection. I should also point out that his rants also state he is a huge supporter of guns, and will give anyone who comes in with a gun a discount, unless of course you are an on duty cop. If you feel so threatened shouldn't your big guns take care of you?

While I agree with him that we all have the right to free speech, I do not agree that he should post such things on his business page! It is highly unprofessional! If attention for his business is what he wanted, he definitely got it. They do say that any publicity is good publicity, however, in this case I am not sure that statement will ring true.

I had to ask...  "Why are you so offended by how other people have sex? I'm sure no one is asking you and your wife how you do it, so why do you care who others are having sex with, or what they are doing in their bedroom? It really isn't any of your business! To post these extremely outdated views on your business page is beyond unprofessional! Are you really surprised that people are threatening you? You claim that your nut and bolt comment wasn't about assembling a vehicle wrong, but that is NOT how your last post came off. Quite honestly I wouldn't be surprised if you have former unsatisfied customers use that quote against you if their vehicle wasn't fixed correctly by your business. Now you want protection because you were stupid enough to run your mouth on a very public platform? If they only send gay cops to offer protection would you deny any assistance from them? This is 2015, most people no longer live with the stone age idea that being gay is wrong. It's time for you to open your eyes and realize those people are just trying to live with the same rights as you or I. Their life is not effecting you in any way."
I mean really why does he care who a customer is having sex with!? I am not expecting him to answer, but I really wish he would!

Had he posted this on his own personal Facebook rather than the DieselTec page it wouldn't have received so much attention, as privacy settings could have prevented it from being shared as easily. But he is clearly seeking attention for his posts, as he reported to The Grand Rapids Press that he "Sat up overnight with a loaded pistol because of possible backlash over his Facebook post". Can you say drama queen!

So, how do you feel about this situation? Was it appropriate for him to post such things on his business page or should he have kept his mouth shut?

Car seat safety is ALWAYS important!

I will post this a million times because I want everyone to know it... YOU HAVE TO BUCKLE YOUR CHILD CAR SEAT CORRECTLY EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Today I saw a family member tagged in a facebook photo. The photo was her friend's child and her daughter, who is only 2.5 months older than my son, in their car seats and basically not even strapped in . Think of every wrong thing you can do when buckling your child into their seat; twisted straps, chest clips pushed all the way down by the buckle, straps not even over their shoulders, huge puffy coats. Two innocent 2 year olds who have no idea that their mothers are neglecting them in a huge way, failing to provide as much safety as possible in a vehicle.

My heart just sank into my stomach. I knew I had to say something, so I did! I didn't call her out on her picture, I would never embarrass someone publicly like that. I didn't make any smartass comments or make it seem like I was a better parent. I politely sent her a private message and asked her if I could offer some car seat safety advice, because I know how much she loves her daughter and I would never want to see her hurt in an accident. I was hoping that she would be open to hearing what I had to say. Instead she responded "I know how to do it correctly, this was just  a quick run down the street.". My heart sank even more... how can anyone knowingly put their child in danger even if it is only for a few seconds?!

You guys, car seat safety is a HUGE deal! Children DIE in accidents because they aren't properly strapped in. These are deaths that easily could have been prevented! Some parents just don't know, which is ridiculous, because read your damn car seat manual! Then there are the parents who DO KNOW, and still choose to put their child into a moving vehicle with an improperly buckled seat. This is child abuse and neglect!  Saying things like "It takes too long to buckle it right", "My kid doesnt like the chest clip way up there", or "It was just a short trip" are horrible EXCUSES! Your child deserves better than excuses. This is a LIFE OR DEATH matter! It is not a joke! It should not be taken lightly!

If you are unsure if your child is in the correct type of seat, if you are strapping them in correctly, or if your seat is installed correctly PLEASE ask someone for help! There are SO many resources out there to help you! To find a certified car seat safety inspection near you please check out safercar.gov. They will make sure that your seat is properly installed in your car, and offer valuable resources that could save your child's life in an accident.

Here are a few tips for a properly buckled seat:
  • Chest clip at armpit level
  • Tight straps- they should be able to pass the pinch test
  • Crotch buckle always buckled
  • No bulky winter coats!
  • Car seat unable to move more than in inch once installed
  • Rear facing until at least 1 AND 20 lbs (its the law!) but it is highly recommended to keep them rear facing until at least 2 years old, or until the rear facing limits of your car seat
Please share this post every where! This really is such an important issue!

I posted these pictures recently, but here they are again! More safety pictures can be found at Daily Momtra.

Something Sweet... Or Not!

Finally! I got my first sample from Smiley360! And it's candy! Oh yea, I am excited! So I rip open the package and shove one in my mouth, a SweeTART Rope, that is. It's chewy, it's soft, its everything you want in a licorice...except for the taste. Yuck! Ok, I am legitimately disappointed that the SweeTART Ropes taste like garbage. They are not that delicious sweet flavor that you associate with SweeTART candies. They are just kind of bland and leave a horrible aftertaste.

So would I recommend these? No! Leave them at the store! Unless you like gross candy, then by all means go for it! ;)

I do not heart these candies! I was just asked to make a heart and post a picture. I take my duties seriously :)

I received these samples complimentary from Smiley360 for testing purposes. Want to join in on the sampling fun? Join Smiley360 today to get started!

Frosty Voxbox Reviews!

Celestial Tea
I am really not a tea person, so it was no surprise that this tea was not for me. I am sure others loved it, but I was just not a fan. It had a lovely holiday smell, but the flavor was not my "cup of tea".

*Edit- I just found this recipe and wish I had seen it before I just tried the tea on its own! It sounds delicious, and I bet it would have complimented the tea's flavor well.
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
  • ½ oz. dark chocolate
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 bags Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Holiday Green Tea
  • 2 Tbsp. peppermint schnapps (optional)
  • Whipped cream
  • Candy canes
Combine 2 cups water, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, honey and tea bags in a saucepan. Bring to boil, simmer 5 minutes and remove tea bags. Stir in peppermint schnapps (if using) and pour into two mugs. Top with whipped cream, add a candy cane stir stick and enjoy.

Fruit Vines
The Fruit Vines Red Vines bites were a perfectly sized little snack. I prefer really soft licorice, like red vines, or pull & peels. These were a little too tough for me, but they had a great taste!

McCormick Gourmet Thyme
The McCormick Thyme had a great flavor. It was nice and bold, and really gave my Pork Tenderloin a great flavor. I have never had a bad experience with McCormick brand, and I have a whole stock of their products in my cupboard.

NYC New York Color
Typically I am not a lipstick person, its just too bold for my taste. However, the Plum NYC New York color was perfect. Not too bold, not too flashy, just dark enough to line my lips and give them a slight pop.  Not only was the shade perfect, but it also glides on very smoothly, and doesn't stain your teeth. I was very impressed with NYC New York Plum Lip color, and would definitely purchase it in the future!

Boots NO7 Protect & Perfect Serum
I really loved how smooth the serum went onto my skin. It is a very silky smooth consistency, which makes my skin feel the same way. The sample that I received was very small, and only had enough to last me about a week. This serum claims it shows results after 2 weeks, so I really can't say if it actually does what it claims.  However, I absolutely hated how it smelled! It smelled exactly how I imagine liquid plastic would smell, not a burnt smell, just very plastic-y. Based on the smell alone I would not purchase this serum. Also, I feel like I'm not in need of anti-aging cream just yet.

EcoTools Hair Brush
The eco tools hairbrush I received is not my favorite type of brush. The bristles on it make my hair very staticy. I would really love to try a different brush from EcoTools, because mine does feel like a quality product that will last a long time. This one just isnt for me. I would definitely try other products by EcoTools in the future, and will be looking to purchase a new brush from them in the future.

I have quite a few reviews to finish up and post, but I wanted to share an experience I recently had with another type of company.

A few months ago a mommy friend of mine shared an advertisement that kept popping up on Cafe Mom. It was a Walmart AutoVantage ad for roadside assistance, and the picture featured a child in a car seat that was very clearly buckled wrong. The chest clip was down at his stomach, and the child appeared as though he might not be old enough to forward face (AAP recommends Rear Facing until at least 2 years old). This ad really bothered me. As a parent who knows how important car seat safety is, I found it irresponsible of Walmart, AutoVantage, and Cafe Mom to feature an ad with such a huge mistake on it. I feel a parent who doesn't know better might see this ad and think that is how a child is supposed to be strapped in.

I ended up emailing AutoVantage to voice my concerns. I expected to get a generic email stating they will pass my email along to the appropriate people. After a few days I didn't hear anything, and figured I never would. The next week I opened my email to find a response from an AutoVantage representative who took my email very seriously. So seriously that they removed the ad! I was thrilled! I never expected that anyone would even read my email, but for them to take the ad down completely blew my mind!
I want to give AutoVantage a huge shoutout for pulling an advertisement that did not properly fit proper car seat safety standards. I feel a company who admits wrong, and fixes their mistakes really deserves praise and acknowledgement.

How a child is buckled into their car seat can mean the difference in life or death in the event of a crash! If you are unsure if you are buckling your child's car seat correctly please do not be afraid to ask questions and learn the proper safety requirements of your seat.

Please help spread awareness of proper car seat safety! This means:
-Chest clip at armpit level.
-TIGHT straps.
-Crotch buckle always buckled.
-No bulky winter coats.
-Carseat unable to move more than an inch once installed.

The following images were found at Dailymomtra and clearly illustrate proper car seat safety.

The first review I want to do for my Influenster Frosty VoxBox is for the Rimmel products. Rimmel sent London Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, and Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner. I was thrilled to get both as I was looking for a new eyeliner, and really wanted to try out a makeup remover.

I had never used an eye makeup remover before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was hoping that it would gently remove all eyeliner and mascara without the need for scrubbing at my eyes. While it did remove most of my eye makeup I still felt like there was a lot of residue left. It also made my eyes feel kind of...gross? It was kind of tingly like I could feel all the chemicals going right into my eye, but it wasn't painful. Sorry, I don't know how to explain it any better than that. I don't care for using a bunch of chemicals so close to my eyes, so the fact that it made my eyes feel gross was a huge turn off. Unfortunately, I feel like wiping my eyes with water had the same effect as the Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. I really wanted to love this makeup remover, but the fact is I don't, and I would not purchase it in the future.

I am still on the fence about the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner. I love how smoothly it goes on. I love how deep the color is. I can wear it all day and it doesn't fade on my upper lid. It still rubs off pretty easily on my lower lid, which is a problem with every eyeliner I've tried. Quick touch ups throughout the day would easily fix the lower lid problem, but I guess I just want my makeup to last all day after putting it on. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the Scandaleyes Eyeliner. I would probably purchase it over other brands if the price was right :)
